Hola mi familia!
I'm safely at the orphanage home in Cuernavaca. It is really calm and peaceful here and the locals are very nice. Sometimes people stare at all us gringos (especially ginger ones) but it's still amusing at this point (might get annoying after a while). I'm getting to know the other volunteers and we are getting along great so far. The NPH employee who picked us up from the airport was really sweet and happily answered all of our questions. She will definitely be someone in the area that I can contact if I'm ever feeling lost/lonely/upset...etc.
I was a little worried about being a vegetarian in Mexico, but so far I've had a delicious vegetarian panini at the airport and an even better vegetarian taco at a restaurant walking distance from the orphanage.
Welp, it's only 6:30pm here and I'm exhausted! I'm going to take a shower and jump in bed. We wake up tomorrow morning at 6am! wowza! Don't worry, I'm doing everything as a group and I'm being safe! We start Spanish classes tomorrow and continue for 2 weeks before we actually start our volunteering duties. I found out that all the younger kids will be at the other orphanage in Miacatlán and I'll be here in Cuernavaca working with the high schoolers. Not what I'm use to but at least I'll actually be able to have comprehensible Spanish conversations with them since they are older...that is, once I get the hang of the language. I don't feel too lost with the language so far, though. I think my level of Spanish fits somewhere in the middle of the other 5 volunteers and I think I'll be able to pick it up in the next couple months.
There's visitor homes here for anyone who wants to visit me! But I think I should stick it out for a couple months by myself at first.
I love you all and hope you are doing well.
Paz y amor,
Bailey
